Baby at 7 weeks
The hormones like progesterone, oestrogen, HPL and HCG are
rushing around your body so you will probably be more aware of
being pregnant. It is during this week the tiny embryo (baby)
will be transformed into a human looking foetus.
Development The heart
has well defined four chambers and it has a regular beat. The
lungs, muscles, bones and the limbs are developing and begining
to take shape.
The head and brain are growing rapidly, with ridges defining
three areas of the brain.
The forebrain - which controls memory and thinking.
The midbrain - is responsible for co-ordinating
messages.
The hind brain - regulates the heart, breathing and
movements of muscles in the body.
Nasal and oral cavities are developing, which will become facial
features such as eyes, ears and mouth.
Appearance
The limbs are now developing into paddle shaped arms and legs.
A neck is starting to separate the relatively large head from
the body. There is a dark tinge where the eyes are forming and
eyelids are also developing. The tip of the nose is present.
The baby has lips and a tounge but it is not clearly seen.
Movement Baby will start to
make tiny movements. This can be detected by sensitive ultra
sound equipment. The sex glands are also developing.
