Getting Pregnant May Not Always Be Easy
Some couples tend to get pregnant just by "looking at each
other" or so the saying goes and other couples struggle for
years with infertility issues. Getting pregnant may not always
be easy but it is usually fun "in the trying to conceive" stage
of getting pregnant. Getting pregnant involves many factors not
just the sexual activity of a male and female. Getting pregnant
can involve medical intervention, pre-conception health
check-ups, testing or improvements to health before successful
pregnancy can be achieved, or it may involve a higher degree of
medical intervention when infertility issues are involved or
when the woman or man is unable to reproduce and other methods
such as in-vitro procedures, or surrogacy are used to help a
couple achieve pregnancy.
Getting pregnant requires that the couple understand the
stages concerned such as ovulation, fertilization and
successfully maintaining a pregnancy so that lifestyle changes
can be made to improve the chance for getting pregnant.
Sometimes the barrier to getting pregnant is as simple as
clearing up some misconceptions as to how conception occurs.
Some of these misconceptions involve not knowing that what is
being done sexually can actually cause a pregnancy such as
having anal or oral sex and other times the misconceptions
involve whether or not sperm can travel in a hot tub, pool or
other body of water and impregnate a female. Any time a penis
and vagina come into contact there is the possibility of
getting pregnant. When the individual desire pregnancy the
misconceptions generally revolve around the timing of
ovulation.
Being aware of when the female is ovulating can help to time
intercourse for the optimum chance for conception. Ovulation
kits and fertility monitors are available to help detect this
optimum timing. The woman can also become more aware of her
fertility signs so that she can know when she is most likely to
be ovulating by charting basal temperatures and by
understanding her menstrual cycle. Her gynecologist can help
her to understand her unique body's cycle better.
Getting pregnant sometimes requires that the couple ask for
help from a medical professional. A young couple that has been
trying to conceive for a year without any barriers to pregnancy
and has not been able to successfully conceive should seek
medical consultation. A couple where the female is 35 or older
and has not achieved pregnancy after 6 months of trying should
seek medical intervention.
An RA is a medical professional specializing in reproductive
assistance and is used by couple experiencing infertility
issues. A healthcare provider can run tests to determine if the
male or female is experiencing any fertility issues or if there
are any health reasons for not being able to conceive.
Sometimes the fix is easy and other times there may be more
than one factor male or female that needs to be addressed
before successful conception can take place.
There are couples that after exhausted testing discover that
the fertility issues they have encountered cannot be solved for
health reasons or because of structural abnormalities. In these
cases surrogacy or in-vitro procedures can be explored to
achieve pregnancy. Getting pregnant may not always be easy but
for the majority of couples who desire to have a biological
child there is always a way.
